Decorative Building Materials Glossary
Plain-English definitions of the wall panel, moulding, SPC flooring, and LED mirror terms used across the INTCO Decor catalog — from material acronyms like WPC, SPC, and MDF to buyer terms like MOQ and OEM/ODM.
- WPCWood-Plastic Composite
- A composite of wood fibre and thermoplastic used for wall panels and cladding. WPC combines a timber-like look with far better moisture resistance than solid wood, so it suits humid interiors and covered outdoor areas.
- SPCStone-Plastic Composite
- A rigid core of limestone powder and PVC used in flooring and some wall panels. SPC is dimensionally stable, waterproof, and dent-resistant, which makes it a common click-lock flooring choice for high-traffic and wet areas.
- MDFMedium-Density Fibreboard
- An engineered wood panel made from fine wood fibres bonded under heat and pressure. In decor, MDF is the substrate for acoustic slat panels, 3D panels, and flexible panels because it machines cleanly and takes veneers and finishes well.
- PETPolyethylene Terephthalate (Polyester)
- A recyclable polyester used to make pressed acoustic felt panels. PET acoustic panels are lightweight, fibre-free to handle, and often made with recycled content, absorbing sound in offices, studios, and meeting rooms.
- PSPolystyrene
- A lightweight rigid plastic used for mouldings, skirting, and some wall panels. PS profiles are waterproof, easy to cut and install with adhesive, and a cost-effective alternative to plaster or wood trim.
- Acoustic Panel
- A wall or ceiling panel engineered to absorb or diffuse sound and reduce echo. INTCO Decor acoustic panels pair a fabric or felt (PET) face or slatted timber-look face with a backing to control reverberation in interiors.
- NRCNoise Reduction Coefficient
- A single 0–1 rating of how much sound a material absorbs (1.0 = total absorption). It is the headline metric buyers compare when specifying acoustic panels for a room.
- Slat / Fluted Panel
- A wall panel with regularly spaced vertical ribs (slats/flutes) over an acoustic or plain backing. The 3D rhythm adds texture and, on acoustic versions, helps scatter sound — a popular feature-wall look.
- 3D Wall Panel
- A panel with a raised, sculpted surface pattern that casts shadow and depth on a wall. Used to turn a flat wall into a textured feature surface without plasterwork.
- Flexible Panel
- A wall panel engineered to bend around curved surfaces such as columns, arcs, and reception desks, where a rigid panel could not be applied.
- Feature Wall
- A single wall finished differently from the rest of a room to become a focal point. Wall panels, slat panels, and 3D panels are common feature-wall materials.
- Crown Moulding
- A decorative trim that covers the joint where a wall meets the ceiling. INTCO Decor crown mouldings are lightweight PS profiles installed with adhesive.
- Skirting BoardBaseboard
- A trim run along the base of a wall where it meets the floor, protecting the wall and concealing the floor edge. Also called a baseboard in North America.
- Lighting Moulding
- A wall or ceiling moulding profile with a channel designed to hide LED strip lighting, producing indirect cove or wall-wash lighting.
- LED Mirror
- A bathroom or vanity mirror with integrated LED lighting, often with anti-fog, dimming, and touch controls. Rated to a moisture-safe IP standard for bathroom use.
- IP RatingIngress Protection (e.g. IP44 / IP65)
- A two-digit code for how well a fitting resists solids and water. The second digit matters for bathrooms: IP44 withstands splashing water, IP65 withstands water jets — relevant when placing an LED mirror near a shower.
- VOCVolatile Organic Compounds
- Gases released by some finishes and adhesives that affect indoor air quality. Low-VOC decor materials are specified for occupied and certified-green interiors.
- GRSGlobal Recycled Standard
- A third-party certification that verifies recycled content and responsible production of a material. INTCO Decor uses GRS-recognised recycled inputs on applicable product lines.
- OEM / ODMOriginal Equipment / Original Design Manufacturing
- OEM makes a product to the buyer’s own design and brand; ODM adapts the manufacturer’s existing designs for the buyer. INTCO Decor supports both for size, colour, finish, and packaging.
- MOQMinimum Order Quantity
- The smallest order a supplier will produce. For INTCO Decor wholesale programs the MOQ typically starts from one container load.
- Click-Lock InstallationInterlocking / Floating
- A glue-free method where panels or planks snap together via a tongue-and-groove edge to form a floating surface. Common for SPC flooring and some wall panels — faster to fit and removable.
